Quite a few people have asked how I create my wax paintings. I can't stand it when people are secretive about styles and techniques, sharing is the way forward, so here is a little bit about the processes involved in wax painting......

It's called Encaustic Wax Painting. You buy the wax in coloured blocks and when you heat the iron up the wax melts over the iron. Then you get card with a glossy surface so that the wax will sit on the surface rather than be absorbed into the card.

You use the iron to glide the wax across the surface of the card, and depending on how much pressure or the movement of the iron depends on the effects you create on the card. You can also use the side of the iron like a knife to create lines or grass effects.

There is also a stylus you can buy specifically for wax painting (it's basically just like a soldering iron with adjustable heads.) You can buy mini iron heads which fit onto the stylus, or wire brushes which give different effects.

The reason I love wax painting so much is because it is a very expressive and emotive artform, you can never get two pieces of work exactly the same, so everything you create will always be a one-off unique piece of work.
