Just to let any faery fanatics out there know, there is a super, fantastic, AMAZING faery exhibition on at Southampton City Art Gallery until Sunday 13th September. I went three weeks ago when I was on holiday in the New Forest, and I loved it so much we drove from London to Southampton today to go and see it again. It took just over an hour and a half from South London, so it's not too far (and we stopped off for a delicious lunch at the Queens Head pub in Burley and did some shopping at The Coven of Witches while we were there.)
The exhibition is called 'The Truth About Faeries' and has four fantastic rooms documenting faeries across art through the last 100 years or so. It has a fantastic collection of images ranging back through the Victorian era, Flower Faeries, Arthur Rackham, through to more contemporary art by Brian Froud, and some huge, breathtaking paintings depicting scenes from Lord of the Rings. Really, really a must for any faery fan, and well worth travelling to see.
Don't miss it, and if any of you go, let me know what you think

July 26th 2009
Yes.... I am procrastinating - it's so much nicer than marking GCSE coursework.
School finishes in three days then hopefully I'll have some time to indulge in a little DA browzing, something I've missed lately.
Found some beautiful images and thought I'd share them with you.

Stunning detail.

L'eau des mauves by =sombrefeline
Wonderful colours (and inspired by a song which was inspired by one of my favourite paintings - all will become clear when you see it)

Girltripped Contest Entry-Rob by ~RobHough
I wish this was a portrait of me! So stunning. It's a good job paint isn't edible otherwise my paint bill would be enormous

Maculate Heart of the Artist by ~ArtemisiaSynchroma
Such lovely vibrant and soft colours.

Still by ~greenfroggies
Makes me think of summers lazing in Richmond Park or up on Epsom Downs.
Such a serene painting.

You Took the Words by =SchemaTree
Wow! I love this painting. Really eyecatching and delicious.

Where We Go by ~shadowgirl
I think this has to be one of the most spectacular paintings I have seen in a very long time. Utterly mesmerising.

Happy 'nearly end of July' everyone!

ENCAUSTIC WAX PAINTING JOURNAL
Okay, so quite a lot of people have been asking me about wax painting since I joined DA and because I like sharing I thought I'd write a quick journal about it which might help people who are inquisitive about the technique or feel they would like to give it a go.
You can find the journal here: [link]
